The Speed Technologies Modified Kart juggernaut driven by the Red Bull-backed Mitchell DeJong, reigning champion of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, took a swipe at yet another championship to his trophy case by landing round 1 win at the Firebird Raceway season opener in Phoenix, Arizona.
Battling 17 fierce competitors who waged war upon the short course off-road race track, DeJong delivered the victory by a steep six-second margin after qualifying second for the Saturday main event showdown. Before the loaded grandstands, DeJong shot into the lead, besting second place upon the podium, Jerett Brooks, and Brock Heger, who finished third on the day, for the 51 points that lands DeJong in the lead of the season points chase.
