The pack of starters weighed in at 24 trucks strong, leading to some vicious fender jousting at varous times throughout the race weekend. Tires launched like mortar rounds into the air and onto the race course. Drivers dodged the mayhem of obstacles. Trucks performed somersaults in pursuit of the podium. The two main events for the Pro 2 Unlimited weekend entertained midair collisions and provided for an outstanding show of horsepower and havoc for the packed grandstands and televisions viewers alike.
His first time in the driver's seat of the Speed Technologies Pro 2 Unlimited Truck, Dempsey worked his way through the ranks and the list of casualties that developed throughout the weekend's racing, dodging crashes and earning a few mechanical woes due to physical encounters on the race course. Perhaps the biggest issue was the breakage of the steering linkage, which required some ingenuous throttle steering just to get the truck across the finish line.
In spite of such issues, Dempsey finished. The No. 50 truck showed 13th and 16th for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
